Dear Lance,
Welcome to the May issue of the D- Letter.
First, I want to thank all of you who called or sent me emails. I
sincerely appreciate your comments and feedback. I did listen.
You’ll see this reflected in the two new section names: Facts
for Thought and On My Mind. And also in the
re-design of sections of my website, DublinConsulting.net, and my
new email address, lance@dublinconsulting.net.
This month I want to introduce you to the world of blogs, answer
the question, "So, what do you do anyway?", invite you to join me in
de-mystifying the world of learning and technology, and share with
you what was on my mind after spending a few days with the best and
brightest in the learning and development worlds.
Thank you for joining me. As always, I welcome your comments and
feedback; don't hold back. My best, Lance

& Simulations, M-Learning, Informal Learning and
More |

Your organizations needs are constantly changing. But, are
your learning approaches keeping pace? It’s important to
continue to build on the more traditional approaches such as
instructor-led training, mentoring and coaching, and
e-courses. But, it’s critical to de- mystify these new trends
(and others) so you can make informed decisions and choices
about which ones make most sense for your organization now and
into the future.
I look forward to seeing you online in this webinar on
Thursday, May 11th from 2:00-3:00pmEST. Register now from the

| Joining the Blog Mega-Wave: Welcome to the
Revolution |
 |
|
I figure 13.7 million people can’t be all wrong or all be
wrong, So, I’m jumping on this blog mega-wave! We have limited
our thinking, our vision, and our impact by continuing to
focus on e-learning. Put quite simply, in my opinion, the 'e'
is in the wrong place. I’m passionate about opening up the
conversation - and the thinking - about learning enabled,
enhanced and extended by leveraging technology, what I call
learning-e or learning to the power of ‘e’.
Here are some of the initial comments: “True. Putting the e
in front of learning is certainly limiting our creative
thinking. The main focus must be on LEARNING and not on the E.
I agree. Context should be king. The E thing is overrated.
CONTEXT is king if you already have the Content. If Context is
king the content is queen."
I invite you to join in this dialogue to create a true
revolution in learning!

On My Mind |
|
|
|
I’m on the plane returning from Dallas and the 2006 ASTD
International Conference and Exhibition (fondly known as ICE
in the ‘trades’). There 7,500 well intentioned professionals
gathered just blocks away from the infamous grassy knoll and
Texas School Book Depository; the place where John F. Kennedy
was assassinated on November 22nd, 1963. We were brought
together in response to the call to Think Bigger! Think
Innovation! Think Leadership! Think Resources!
We spent time learning how to design learning interventions
– with and without the latest and greatest technologies. We
learned how to evaluate them to prove that they (and we) are
effective and therefore worthwhile. We learned how to align
our solutions with organizational strategies, demonstrate ROI,
and build business cases. We learned how to be entertaining
trainers and how to entertain our students. We learned how to
communicate with the people who have the knowledge and apply a
multi- step process to ‘translate’ what they know in ways
others with less knowledge can understand and act upon. We
learned about the ins and outs, and the what, when, why, where
and how of designing, developing, presenting, evaluating, and
defending learning and development.
But, what struck me as odd was the fact there were few
times we were challenged to think about our true
‘end-customers’, the people who want, desire and/or need the
skills, knowledge and abilities we are working so hard to
provide. Isn’t it about time we think about how to truly
engage their hearts and minds as well as their heads and
hands.
Isn’t it about time we truly THINK PEOPLE!
I welcome your reactions and thoughts. Find out more....
